United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) (age 62) appointed his son as crown prince of Abu Dhabi and elevated his brothers to top positions. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the eldest son of MBZ. He is now the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi
MBZ was named President of the United Arab Emirates in May 2022 after his half-brother Sheikh Khalifa died after ill health sidelined him for years.
Abu Dhabi is known to some as the Capital of Capitals and is home to a number of sovereign wealth funds including ADQ, Mubadala Investment Company, and the massive Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA). There is a concentration of power in Emirati capital Abu Dhabi and away from its commercial capital, Dubai.
Furthermore, Sheikh Mohammed appointed his brother Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan as UAE vice president, alongside already-sitting Vice President Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is the ruler of Dubai. Sheikh Mansour is the Chairman of Mubadala and owner of Manchester City soccer club.
Sheikh Mohammed’s brother Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed, the UAE’s national security advisor, was appointed deputy ruler of Abu Dhabi, as was Sheikh Mohammed’s youngest brother Hazza bin Zayed. Earlier, Sheikh Tahnoon was named Chairman of ADIA. Sheikh Tahnoon is also the Chairman of ADQ.
