Musician Justin Bieber (age 28) no longer owns most of his music. Justin Bieber sold the rights to more than 290 songs released before the end of 2021 to Hipgnosis Song Management for an undisclosed sum. Previous estimates valued the deal at US$ 200 million. Hipgnosis Songs Fund will acquire the rights to the entire back catalog of Bieber’s releases through December 31, 2021. These assets include publishing copyrights, master recordings, neighboring rights, and artist loyalties. Hipgnosis Songs Fund is a British Guernsey-registered music IP investment and song management company founded by Merck Mercuriadis and Nile Rodgers in 2018. Bieber has sold over 150 million records globally, Hipgnosis said.
In January 2023, Rapper Dr. Dre did an approximate US$ 200 million deal to sell some of his music catalog. The assets are being acquired by Shamrock Holdings and Universal Music Group in two separate transactions.
