Cuba’s electrical grid collapsed. This grid collapse left Cuba in the dark shortly after Hurricane Ian, a sprawling Category 3 hurricane, plowed through the western end of the island. Cuba’s electrical grid is decades-old. Cuba’s grid has been faltering for months with blackouts. The hurricane severely flooded the Caribbean island. Hurricane Ian made landfall as a Category 3 storm at 4:30 AM ET September 28, 2022 (Tuesday) in Pinar del Río province. The Pinar del Río is a tobacco-rich province in western Cuba.
