French President Emmanuel Macron Wins Re-Election in France

French President and La Republique en Marche (LREM) party candidate for re-election Emmanuel Macron (age 44) defeated rival Marine Le Pen. Marine Le Pen (Marion Anne Perrine Le Pen) of the nationalist party National Rally got 41.4% of the vote vs. La République En Marche at around 58.6%. Immediately after the exit polls, Marine Le Pen addressed her supporters in Paris and accepted defeat. Turnout on Sunday was 2 percentage points lower than the 2017 election, according to the French Interior Ministry. Macron’s margin represents a smaller gap between the two candidates. In 2017, Macron won with 66.1% of the vote.
