Payments Company Square Renames itself to Block

Jack Dorsey’s Square Inc. payments company is changing its company name to Block. The Square seller product is still called Square. Square aims to focus on new technologies like blockchain and expands beyond its original credit card reader business.

Furthermore, the Square Crypto division is changing its name to Spiral.

This week Jack Dorsey resigned as CEO of Twitter Inc. Jack Dorsey is CEO of Square.

The Square company account tweeted, “We’re changing our company name so we can give the full @Square brand to our Seller business. So now we need a name to tie @Square, @CashApp, @TIDAL, and @TBD54566975 together into one. That name is “Block.” Why?”

In 2021, Facebook renamed itself to Meta.
