Founder of Wasatch Advisors, Samuel S. Stewart Jr., Dies at 79

Samuel S. Stewart Jr. (Sam Stewart) is the founder of money manager Wasatch Advisors (now Wasatch Global Investors). Stewart died on November 23, 2021 at age 79. Stewart launched the Salt Lake City-based small-cap specialist in 1975. Before finding his asset management firm, Samuel S. Stewart Jr. earned a combined MBA and Ph.D. in finance through the Sloan Program at Stanford University and was later a professor of finance at Columbia University.
In 2018, Stewart sold his stake in the firm and left Wasatch to form Seven Canyons Advisors with his sons Josh, Spencer, and son-in-law Eric.
