1. Iraq Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi survived an assassination attempt. He escaped unhurt from a drone attack on his Baghdad residence. The drones were laden with explosives targeted his residence in the capital, Baghdad. Iraq just had a general election that was disputed by Iran-backed militia groups. At least six members of the prime minister’s personal protection force were wounded in Sunday’s attack.

2. Morocco’s King Mohamed VI reiterated that Western Sahara is “not negotiable”. Speaking on Saturday, the 46th anniversary of the Green March by 350,000 Moroccans into Western Sahara in 1975, Morocco’s King Mohamed VI said, “Today as in the past, Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara will never be up for negotiation.” Morocco views the former Spanish colony as its sovereign territory while Algeria backs and hosts Western Sahara’s Polisario Front independence movement.
