Facebook Rebrands Company Name to Meta

Posted on 10/28/2021

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said his company is rebranding itself as Meta (officially: Meta Platforms Inc.). Facebbok is de-emphasizing Facebook’s name. Facebook is pivoting towards virtual reality. He calls Facebook’s virtual reality vision project as the “metaverse”. Facebook’s corporate structure also won’t change. On December 1, 2021, Facebook shares will start trading under a new ticker symbol, (MVRs).

Facebook, Inc. tweeted out, “Announcing
@Meta
— the Facebook company’s new name. Meta is helping to build the metaverse, a place where we’ll play and connect in 3D. Welcome to the next chapter of social connection.”

Hot Potatoes
Like Twitter, TikTok, and other social media sites, Facebook has been a political target for allowing misinformation to spread derived from its users, while banning conservative (right-leaning) news stories and other topics. Simply speaking in the U.S., liberals wants Facebook to ban conservative news, while conservatives want to be able to post on Facebook. Facebook’s other services were criticized for hurting the image of teenage girls and have faced lawsuits of sex trafficking.
