1. The Federal Reserve’s Reverse Repo Facility tops US$ 1 trillion for the first time.
2. Walmart Inc. is the largest private employer in the U.S. The retail giant is requiring its headquarters and regional staff to be vaccinated with COVID shots by October 4, 2021. Walmart separately told its frontline store and warehouse associates to wear masks again
3. Amazon.com, Inc. was hit with a US$ 886.6 million fine for allegedly breaking European Union data protection laws. The fine was issued by Luxembourg’s National Commission for Data Protection. The fine claimed Amazon’s processing of personal data did not comply with EU law. Amazon plans to fight the fine.
4. University of Michigan 12-month inflation forecast +4.7%.
5. OIL PRICES RISE AGAIN. Brent crude oil futures advanced US$ 1.31, or 1.75%, to settle at US$ 76.05 per barrel.
6. POLICE STATE IN SYDNEY – Australia Deploys Military to Enforce COVID Lockdown. Australian Defence Force soldiers will patrol Sydney to enforce a COVID lockdown. The lockdown is in place until at least August 28, 2021. Civil rights leaders such as the Australian Lawyers Alliance are questioning whether the military intervention is necessary. Australian residents there will be forced to wear masks outdoors and to stay within five kilometers of their homes.
7. COVID VAXXED PEOPLE CAN SPREAD THE VIRUS. According to CDC slides obtained by Human Events magazine, the CDC sees the Delta variant infections are associated with a higher viral load and duration of shedding. The CDC believes the COVID Delta variant is more transmissible than Ebola, Smallpox, and the Flu. The CDC is also acknowledging that COVID vaccinated people can spread COVID. The CDC also believes that COVID vaccine breakthrough cases will occur more frequently in congregate settings. The new data, published in the U.S. agency’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, also found that fully vaccinated people who get infected carry as much of the virus in their nose as unvaccinated people.
In addition, a CDC study shows 74% of people infected in Massachusetts COVID. outbreak were fully vaccinated.
“This finding is concerning and was a pivotal discovery leading to CDC’s updated mask recommendation,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said in a statement in a press release. “The masking recommendation was updated to ensure the vaccinated public would not unknowingly transmit virus to others, including their unvaccinated or immunocompromised loved ones.”
8. Five French public research institutions imposed a 3-month moratorium on the study of prions. In June 2019, an INRAE lab worker named Émilie Jaumain died at age 33, 10 years after pricking her thumb during an experiment with prion-infected mice. Prions are a class of misfolding, infectious proteins that cause fatal brain diseases. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is the most common prion disease in humans.
