Community College IT Admin vs. Incumbent Retired Facilities Director Fight for Powerful CalPERS Board Spot
Posted on 07/21/2021
The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) Board of Administration oversees the pension US$ 469 billion system and elections are coming up. CalPERS Board President Henry Jones and Vice President Theresa Taylor, along with board members Rob Feckner, David Miller, and Ramón Rubalcava endorsed Jose Luis Pacheco for the Position B board seat which is held by Margaret Brown. Margaret Brown has clashed with other CalPERS board members such as closed-door sessions. The board accused Brown of leaking information to the media. She denies the leaking allegations. Brown’s current term ends on January 15, 2022.
“We need leaders to serve on CalPERS who have the right experience. Jose Luis Pacheco is that leader for this seat. He serves as a responsible fiduciary on a credit union board and has effectively bargained for his fellow members as local union president. I strongly support Jose Luis Pacheco for CalPERS Board of Administration Position B,” said Henry Jones, President of the CalPERS Board of Administration in a press release on Pacheco’s campaign site.
Pacheco currently works as an IT Developer / Administrator for the San Jose Evergreen Community College District and is Vice Chairman of Santa Clara County Federal Credit Union. Brown was elected to the CalPERS board in 2017 and she was the retired director of facilities for the Garden Grove Unified School District.
The other race involves David Miller facing off against Tiffany Emon-Moran, a retired police detective from San Bernardino, California. David Miller is a senior environmental scientist with the California Department of Toxic Substances Control.
