1. U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says that GameStop (ticker: GME) is interesting and that the House plans to pass a reconciliation bill.

2. General Motors is targeting to have 40% of U.S. models that are being offered to be battery electric vehicles by the end of 2025.

3. President Joe Biden’s administration will not measure economic progress by the U.S. stock market.

4. Social media app Telegram is offering users to bring their chat histories from apps like Line, WhatsApp (owned by Facebook), and Kakaotalk.

5. Due to high trading volumes, German online broker Trade Republic suffered a partial outage.

6. China continues to claim Taiwan as its own territory. Taiwan reported multiple Chinese fighter jets and bombers entering its southwestern air defense identification zone last weekend. In recent remarks this week, newly appointed U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken saying on Wednesday that Washington’s relationship with Beijing is “arguably the most important … that we have in the world”. Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has repeatedly said it is already an independent country called the Republic of China, its formal name.

7. Another COVID bill is coming around the corner, as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says Senate will start debate of COVID-19 bill next week.

8. COVID variant strains are hampering progress on eliminating more deaths caused by the Wuhan coronavirus. Executives from Moderna Inc and Pfizer Inc and partner BioNTech SE are considering new versions of their vaccines.
