1. Trafigura signed a deal with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) government, specifically with Entreprise Générale du Cobalt, regarding cobalt mining. Trafigura would finance the formation of 6 controlled zones where informal miners would dig for copper and cobalt. Tesla and other electric vehicle manufacturers rely on cobalt for lithium ion batteries.

2. Former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden is picking his future cabinet. He picked former U.S. Senator John Kerry as a Special Envoy on Climate and selected Avril Hanes, a former bookstore owner and former Deputy National Security Advisor under Obama, as Director of National Intelligence. Antony Blinken, a former U.S. Deputy Secretary of State under Obama, was selected as Secretary of State to start the campaign on removing President Trump’s “America-First” foreign policy. Former Federal Reserve chief Janet Yellen is a top candidate for Treasury secretary.
