COVID-19 Infections Rise in Europe as Summer Season Ends

The U.K. government is telling its citizenry to work from home if possible as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to flare up across Western Europe. As more restrictions are expected in Europe to deal with increasing daily coronavirus infections, markets are being rattled. The FTSE 100 nosedived more than 3% on coronavirus concerns, along with the recent bank compliance scandal. There are rising coronavirus infection numbers in countries like Spain, France, Austria, and the Netherlands.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was infected with COVID-19 and survived the ordeal.

The U.K. imposed a rule for people to self-isolate to stop the propagation of the virus and if they fail to do so – they could face fines up to 10,000 British pounds. These rules will apply from September 28 to anyone in England who tests positive for the virus or is notified by public health workers that they have been in contact with someone infectious.

“People who choose to ignore the rules will face significant fines,” U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in a statement in a weekend statement.
