Bloomberg is reporting that Libya’s Prime Minister from the Government of National Accord (GNA), Fayez al-Sarraj, plans to resign from his post, but remain on as an caretaker role through the formation of a new government. The new GNA government is expected to have talks in Geneva. The GNA is supported by a faction of governments including Turkey, Qatar, and Italy. The GNA controls parts of Western Libya, while Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar of the Libyan National Army controls parts of the East. Haftar’s forces are supported by the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. There are talks about unifying Libya, as the nation has been stuck in conflict between forces, militia groups, and other extremist elements.

In April 2019, Khalifa Haftar led an offensive to take Tripoli, but Turkish military support repelled his advances.

Libya has the biggest reserves of oil and gas in Africa. Libya is home to the Libya Investment Authority (LIA).
