Macau King of Gambling Stanley Ho Dies at 98

Stanley Ho Hung-sun, Chairman of Shun Tak Holdings, died at the age of 89. Stanley Ho was instrumental in making Macau a major gambling center. Stanley Ho passed away at the Hong Kong Sanatorium Hospital in Hong Kong.
Stanley Ho was born in Hong Kong on November 25, 1921 as the son of Ho Kwong, a businessman and chairman of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. Stanley Ho’s grandfather Ho Fook was a member of the H.K. Legislative Council in 1917. The Ho family were Eurasians. The family made its wealth working as compradores for Jardine, Matheson & Co. (Jardine Matheson), the British trading house. Compradores were people within a country who acts as agents for foreign organizations engaged in investment, trade, or economic or political exploitation.
Stanley Ho and his partners which included Henry Fok, Macau gambler Yip Hon, and his brother-in-law Teddy Yip, made bids for Macau franchises. Stanley Ho influenced Macau’s gaming industry for decades.
