The 2002-2003 outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) killed 774 people and nearly 8,096 people were sick in 26 countries over an 8 month period, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV), which surfaced in December 2019, now has a confirmed death toll of 805 people. 780 confirmed deaths stem from the Hubei province. News reports that five Britons on ski holiday in French Alps are infected.
The World Health Organization believes the new coronavirus that came from a seafood market in Wuhan, China likely originated in bats. The virus then jumped to an “intermediate host” before infecting humans.
